Visible Mending Workshop

When: Thursday, October 17th from 6-9pm, in-person
Skill Level: Total beginner, no experience needed.
Materials Provided:
-denim patch for practice
-sashiko needles
-sashiko thread and pearl cotton
-needle threader
-beeswax tin
-instructional booklet
Class Description:
Join Erin Eggenburg for an information packed, sashiko inspired visible mending for denim & wovens workshop. With hands-on practice, you’ll learn this simple, but useful patterned stitching technique for patching denim and other woven textiles. This is a great class for beginners and seasoned hand stitchers alike with an interest in how mending can be both functional and beautiful.
This 3-hour workshop includes:
-a presentation of mending materials and how they are used in practice
-a hands-on tutorial to practice and complete a patch, in the sashiko-style embroidery technique.
-an explanation of how to repair specific types of mends (crotch/butt patching, threadbare areas, torn pockets, worn knees)
-an opportunity to ask questions about your specific repair
-all materials needed
Instructor Bio
Erin Eggenburg is a maker, mender, and instructor who resides in Portland, OR. She is the owner of wrenbirdarts, an online mending and embroidery supply shop. In 2021, Erin released her first book, The Mending Directory. Erin teaches a variety of visible mending and embroidery classes regularly.
